Noah’s Compass

This book has all the elements of a good Anne Tyler book. (I am a huge fan and have read almost all of her books). The characters are quirky; a social misfit going down the other side of middle age loses his way and finds himself unreasonably attracted to a fresh, young, social outcast. Sound familiar? It was couple from Anne Tyler’s earlier work, Accidental Tourist.

Hidden Jewels

Hello,

I don’t get a lot of research questions. Chalk that down to the internet; but I do get some. I am always impressed by the level of research that most students (including middle school) at Covenant engage in. The topics that have come up this week include spelunking, GeoMagnetics and planet and star formation.  I always check the library catalog first to see if we own any books on the topic but we have a small collection. However, the second place I go is the Gale Database. I usually always find information about any topic no matter how obscure. These are academic articles, reference entries and other types of information published previously somewhere else. They have been evaluated, selected and organized by subject for easy retrieval.  It is one of my goals this year to promote the Gale databases and teach students how to use them.  I challenge you to check the databases for results if you are having trouble finding quality information on your research topic. If you don’t know where they are or how to use them ask me. Nothing would make me happier than showing you this hidden jewel in the Covenant Library Information Resources.

Sincerely,

M Spokes

Librarian
